Last Minute Tips and Strategies

What Strategies Should I Remember?

General Tips:

1. Know the instructions for each section of the test. That way, you can save valuable time by not having to read them when taking the actual exam.

2. Use guessing to your advantage. The more you can eliminate the greater your probability of guessing the answer. If you can eliminate all but two choices you should definitely choose one.

3. Keep moving. Don't let yourself get hung up on any one question.

Math Tips:

1. In the regular math, remember that the answers are given in numerical order. Therefore, if you need to plug in an answer, start with choice C.

2. Be sure to draw a picture for geometry problems that either do not have a picture, or have one "Not drawn to scale".

Verbal Tips:

1. Focus on determining the main idea for the critical reading passages. If you know the main idea of the passage, you can usually eliminate most of the incorrect choices.

2. There are two types of sentence completion questions: One-blank questions and two-blank questions. Read the entire sentence, with the blanks, looking for the meaning, context clues, and key words. Read the whole sentence and try to plug in your own words before you look at the choices. Remember to reread the sentence with your choice to see that it makes sense before you move on.

Feel more prepared? Imagine the confidence reading the whole book can give you!
